Recent and Upcoming Speaking Engagements on ERISA and Insurance Matters

Mr. Hoskins spoke at a CLE sponsored by the National Business Institute entitled "Advanced Employment Law" on October 2, 2008. The program was presented in Columbia, South Carolina. Mr. Hoskins' topic was "ERISA Breach of Fiduciary Duty Claims". He discussed the Supreme Court's recent decision in his LaRue v. DeWolff, Boberg & Associates case, he presented a breach of fiduciary duty case law overview and discussed the Pension Protection Act of 2006 and the Department of Labor's 2007 regulations implemented thereunder.

Mr. Hoskins is scheduled to speak on December 16 and 18, 2008 in a National Business Institute sponsored conference on "Insurance Coverage Litigation". That presentation will be in both Greenville and Columbia and Mr. Hoskins will speak at both locations.

Mr. Hoskins is scheduled to speak on February 11, 2009 at a CLE to be presented in Columbia, South Carolina entitled "Litigating ERISA Claims". Mr. Hoskins will speak on the following topics: (1) Subrogation and Plan Reimbursement Claims, (2) Class Action Suits, and (3) Ethical Dilemmas.

Mr. Hoskins spoke at an employment law continuing education seminar sponsored by the National Business Institute on June 4, 2008. That presentation was in Columbia, South Carolina and Mr. Hoskins' topic was recent developments in ERISA law.

On May 21, 2008, Mr. Hoskins spoke at a CLE sponsored by the South Carolina Bar on the US Supreme Court LaRue decision in which he represented Mr. LaRue. Mr. Hoskins' hour long presentation focused on all aspects of that important decision. His presentation was given in the context of a broader employment law seminar held at the Capital Club in Columbia, South Carolina. The program can be purchased through the South Carolina Bar.

On May 9, 2008, Mr. Hoskins spoke at a CLE sponsored by the Mecklenburg County Bar Association in Charlotte, North Carolina concerning his LaRue case.

Mr. Hoskins spoke for the South Carolina Bar at a continuing legal education course focusing on liens. Mr. Hoskins discussed ERISA subrogation liens. That presentation was held on May 2, 2008 in Columbia, South Carolina. Mr. Hoskins spoke on April 11, 2008 as part of a nationwide audio conference with two esteemed attorney colleagues from California on the impact of his recent US Supreme Court case, LaRue v. On February 25, 2008, Mr. Hoskins spoke at a continuing legal education course focusing solely on ERISA issues with some esteemed colleagues at the Clarion Town House Hotel in Columbia, South Carolina.  On February 6, 2008, Mr. Hoskins was a co-presenter at a national teleconference dedicated to ERISA pension issues and directed to nationwide human resource professionals. 

Mr. Hoskins also recently spoke on August 2, 2007 to the South Carolina Trial Lawyers 2007 Annual Convention on "Breach of Fiduciary Duties and Remedies Under ERISA" in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Click here to view or print Mr. Hoskins' materials for this presentation.

On November 2, 2007, Mr. Hoskins spoke to the South Carolina Claimant Attorneys for Workers' Compensation Organization on the "Ethical Handling of Denied and Disputed Claims Including Lien Issues". That topic dealt with the interplay between ERISA and Workers' Compensation laws and claims. That convention was held at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, North Carolina.
